چکیده

In unreinforced masonry walls, failure due to out -of-plane bending causes the majority of the material damages and loss of human life. Therefore, the development of effective strengthening techniques needs to be addressed. Near-surface mounted (NSM) FRP rods are now emerging as a promising technique for increasing flexural and shear strength of structural members. The aim of this research program was a first evaluation of the effectiveness of NSM FRP rods as a strengthening system for masonry elements subjected to out-of-plane loads. A first series of tests focused on the bond behavior of NSM rods embedded in concrete masonry units (CMU). Successively, three flexural tests were performed on CMU walls. Test results are of encouragement to further investigate the potential of FRP rods in the field of strengthening and retrofitting infill and load-bearing walls. De Lorenzis, L., D. Tinazzi, A. Strengthening of Existing RC Two-Way Slabs using New Combined FRP fabric/rod Technique

This study presents the results of an experimental program to investigate the effectiveness of an innovative combined FRP technique using combination of externally bonded (EB) FRP fabrics and near surface mounted (NSM) FRP rods for flexural strengthening of existing reinforced concrete (RC) two-wayslabs with low clear cover thickness. Three full-scale RC slabs (1500×1500×120 mm) were tested und...

Bond Characteristics of Various Frp Strengthening Techniques

Strengthening of reinforced concrete structures using FRP has emerged as a potential solution to the problems associated with civil infrastructure. Many researchers have reported significant increases in strength and stiffness of concrete structures strengthened with FRP. Nevertheless, possible brittle failures of the strengthened system due to delamination of the FRP strips and/or sheets could...

Frp Composites for Shear Strengthening of Rc Beams

ABSTRACT Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composite systems can be used for shear strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) members. The present study investigated the shear performance and the modes of failure of simply supported RC T-beams externally strengthened in shear with FRP composites. Two different FRP-based strengthening systems were investigated, namely, externally bonded FRP sheets a...

Proposed Design Procedure of Nsm Frp Reinforcement for Flexural and Shear Strengthening of Rc Beams

Near-surface mounted (NSM) fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement has been found to perform efficiently as a flexural/shear strengthening technology for reinforced concrete (RC) members, while offering some additional practical advantages with respect to the most widespread technique of externally bonded laminates. This paper presents a design procedure for flexural and shear strengthenin...
